    If those commentators were sitting next to me at the ball game, yakking incessantly, it would take every ounce of control I have to refrain from leaning over and asking them to shut up so that I could watch the game in peace.

    I think they think that that is the way to sound impartial. Like nobody would know that they're rooting for the National League if they don't get excited about anything.

    Once you have heard a real person like Phil Rizzuto, it is hard to adjust to these clams.

    on Xbox live....he talks a nonstop constant stream of smack. I think most of the people on his friends list are hearing impaired in some way.  I couldn't play some game of strategy while constantly blah blah blah and I couldn't play with someone doing it either.  I have heard people trying to play with him ask him if he could please shut up.

    No not Jimmy Buffett, but rather Warren Buffett does it again when investing for his company Berkshire Hathaway. Not content to just invest money into companies like your normal mutual fund, Buffett buys Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad today for $34 billion.

    They will also pay $100 a share for all privately owned shares that closed at $76 a share yesterday meaning their stock should rise 20% to 25% today. This man controls enough money to boost an economy almost all by himself

    That will provide quite a lift to one of the most environmentally efficient forms of transport in this country.

    On how Question 1 in the Maine elections will go today?

    Maine could become the first state to endorse gay marriage by popular referendum Tuesday, as voters head to the polls to decide whether to repeal a recently-passed law legalizing unions between people of the same gender.

    So, I would like to see it go down in flames.  Gonna be one of those weird proposals, I bet, that will confuse people because it's asking to repeal a current law.

    Does anyone know how to keep cucumbers crisp and usable longer? If I slice and store in water will they last longer?

    I usually just keep mine in a bag in the veggie bin. I seem to have a good fridge for produce shelf life though.

    The various salad cucumbers have such a high water content that they either dry out or mold.  

    Huh.  Wonder what happens if you put a whole cuke in a cold vinegar bath.  It won't pickle it and cukes rot from the outside in so it might keep it fresh longer without turning into a pickle.

    They dry out and mold so fast. I think I'll do a little cucumber in each suggestion and see if any of them work.

    I've been torn as to having them win the series in Philly (if they do eventually win) as I like seeing teams winning the big one at home. And with the new stadium and all, it could be pretty darn cool.

    I don't like fat and/or lazy or crooked cops, and I like fat lazy crooked cops with K-9 unit on their car even less.  What is it about some people and their mean dogs? And who decided they could take on that building?

    and we gave them badges and guns...and thats that.  He who has the gun and badge makes the rules...and here we are in a big rush to give out more badges, guns, and seizing powers...man are we cowardly to the point of stupidity or what?

    but, there are good police officers out there who are actually helping people. It's the brotherhood they stick to that needs to be broken to pieces. When there's corruption or abuse of power found in the police depts, that should be dealt with twice the harshness (sort of like: "Fines double in construction zones").

    A Seattle police officer was gunned down in cold blood Halloween night. The news is saying the assumed motive is retalliation against police brutality. The police need to address the cause, or the finding, arresting and convicting of the person who did this won't solve a thing.

    What the arguments are, but he planned to have a rooming house there, and maybe that doesn't fit in with the city codes?  Or possibly as a nuisance?

    But it's been boarded up for a few weeks now and the owner only found out about it in the last couple of days?

    in the early days of the Democratic takeover, I can't deal with the right of the right.  I don't even know what to say to them, but this diary at dkos is pretty funny today.
