How About Delivering Some Jobs?

President Obama boasts about his progressive accomplishments:

"We have been able to deliver the most progressive legislative agenda -- one that helps working families -- not just in one generation, maybe two, maybe three," [President] Obama said.

That's nice. How about "delivering" some jobs? How about stimulating the economy? Are we counting the current economic crisis as delivering a progressive agenda? Gawd, I hope not.

Speaking for me only

Gee, BTD. You used to be a centrist, albeit an extreme centrist. Heh!

Now you've gone and turned left wing radical on us? Next you'll be wanting to cut the Pentagon budget and use the money for domestic programs.

You haven't been smoking incense in your spare time have you? ;-)

jobs is a priority with this group.

I think they're oblivious to what's happened regarding manufacturing, etc. in this country over the past 20 years.

I believe they are very confused (if they bother to give it any thought) about what must be done.

    Sorry, no jobs. (5.00 / 1) (#3)

    From the same article:

With polls showing Democrats in serious trouble during an anti-incumbent election year, Obama said that helping Democrats get elected in November is his "focus over the next several months."

    My Bold.

Dang, almost missed the nuanced point he made....

He's focusing on their jobs.  OK, got it.

    Long term joblessness (5.00 / 2) (#5)
by MO Blue on Tue Aug 17, 2010 at 09:47:07 AM EST
can have an impact on not just one generation but maybe two, maybe three.

High unemployment makes for an employer market driving wages down and helps fill the military enlistment quotas. The corporations and CEOs get richer and the military gets all the bodies it needs. Have to wonder how much change to the current employment situation is really desired by the powers that be.

We are turning soldiers away now (5.00 / 1) (#6)

we don't need anymore bodies in the military either.  We had flight school students stacked up around here like wood.  One of my husband's students just graduated from her airframe training.  They told her to pack up and go home, she is part of the reserves now.  That wasn't initially what she was supposed to be doing though.  She was supposed to be active duty getting that fulltime paycheck.  She will now get a National Guard type paycheck.  Most of these kids in flight school buy a pricey car and get their first credit cards, and now they will be screwed too.  She didn't know what she would do for work.  There isn't a huge call for heli pilots right now either, and lots of more experienced veterans to fly for the police and paramedics.

Jobs aren't needed by "working families" - in his view, I guess.

Yeh, that made me laugh. Sadly. (5.00 / 1) (#11)

I mean, with all of the whizbang writers for the greatest speechgiver evah, this is what they've got?  More to mock him.

Obama actually needs to create more joblessness -- among his staff.  Fortunately for him, there are plenty of far more attuned folks looking for work.
