Delta Variant is Not Just a Problem for Unvaccinated

The government wants you to believe only the unvaccinated need fear the Delta variant. It says that the vaccines are 90% effective against COVID-19 and almost as effective against the Delta variant. So even though the variants are more transmissible and may make people sicker, only the unvaccinated need fear them. The vaccinated can toss their masks, cram into elevators, cheer and sing in each others faces at sports events and concerts, and go back to their regular lives.

But there are at least 10,000 "break-through" cases of people who have gotten infected with COVID-19 or a variant after being fully vaccinated. Yes, that's a tiny percentage of all people. But that's not how people make decisions. For example, you only have a miniscule chance of winning the lottery but millions of people still buy lottery tickets. Why? Because they know someone is likely to win, and they figure it might as well be them -- they have just as much chance as anybody else.

By the same token, someone is going to be in that group of 10,000 who get the virus or the Delta variant after being fully vaccinated. Why take a chance it might be you? [More....]

According to the CDC, as of April, more than 10,000 vaccinated people got infected. So the CDC stopped reporting that number, and now only reports those who get infected and hospitalized or die after being vaccinated. As of June 14, that's 3,729 people. Some states are still reporting the total number of breakthrough cases. Massachussets reported this week that it has almost 4,000 cases. And Colorado is second in the country for the Delta variant. It's now 55% of new cases.

Odds don't really matter. What matters is whether you will become one of those who get the virus -- because you don't know how sick you will get, whether you will need to be hospitalized, how long you'll be sick, and worse, whether you will be a "long-hauler" and still feel crummy effects months later.

That group exists, and miniscule or not, someone is going to draw the "Old Maid" card and be in it. That's why even vaccinated people should keep wearing masks and social distancing -- because it will lessen the chances you'll be one of them.

1,000 were hospitalized and 160 died.

Get yourself vaxxed, use caution in social settings, respect other people's boundaries.

A total of 10,262 SARS-CoV-2 vaccine breakthrough infections had been reported from 46 U.S. states and territories as of April 30, 2021. Among these cases, 6,446 (63%) occurred in females, and the median patient age was 58 years (interquartile range = 40-74 years). Based on preliminary data, 2,725 (27%) vaccine breakthrough infections were asymptomatic, 995 (10%) patients were known to be hospitalized, and 160 (2%) patients died. Among the 995 hospitalized patients, 289 (29%) were asymptomatic or hospitalized for a reason unrelated to COVID-19. The median age of patients who died was 82 years (interquartile range = 71-89 years); 28 (18%) decedents were asymptomatic or died from a cause unrelated to COVID-19. Sequence data were available from 555 (5%) reported cases, 356 (64%) of which were identified as SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern,§ including B.1.1.7 (199; 56%), B.1.429 (88; 25%), B.1.427 (28; 8%), P.1 (28; 8%), and B.1.351 (13; 4%).

all the BS behind vaccination mandates and/or showing your proof of vaccination. There was this idiot in Washington State on Saturday.

I was able to finally get my first shot (Pfizer) this past Saturday. They gave me a sticker (like you get when you vote, but bigger). I stuck that sucker on my cap for all to see. Hell yeah, I'm vaccinated! I'll show my card to whomever wants to see it.

How is asking someone for proof of vaccination a violation of their "rights"???? It's simple self preservation. I should have the right to know who around me can kill me. This country has devolved into half (ok, maybe 30%) a nation of complete morons.

Although in many, if not most, districts, there are exemptions allowed for valid medical reasons, as well as religious exemptions.

Anti-vaxxers have claimed some kind of religious exemption, and have won that in a few districts.
Personally, if it was up to me, I would put all the unvaccinated kids (except for those with legitimate medical exemptions) into one school, all together.  Let them infect each other and keep them away from the vulnerable.
Maybe that sounds cruel, but it even crueler to not vaccinate your kid and let them infect kids with auto-immune diseases, kids with cancer on chemotherapy, and kids with organ transplants on immuno-suppressant meds.  If the anti-vaxx parents don't like it, let them home school their kids.

should require vaccination as well as the military.   And, by requirement I do not mean mandatory in that employees/soldiers are strapped down and injected.  No, it is required or their are consequences for not doing so.  For example, you can be vaccinated so as not to imperil the health of patients or you will be given one day off to search for another job you will be needing.

for onsite workers as long as you are fully vaccinated. However, there is no requirement for proof. You to fill out an affidavit. If you lie, you are subject to termination.

I'm not affected as I work at home.
